Book Trailers (Videos)!

Over the last year or so, I’ve noticed authors using a new medium for book promotion – book trailers (videos).  Book trailers are much like movie trailers, a tease to peak a reader’s interest.

I asked Stephanie Spann, a book video artist, why book trailers are an important marketing tool for authors.  The following is what she had to say:

“Book videos are a great way to exchange information with fans, both old and new.  Readers learn about your past and future works, while you discover key aspects to help target your audience more efficiently.  Whether you chose a conservative layout or hip music with bright colors, readers need to see four important items:  your name, your book cover and title, the date of publication and your website address.  While the first three may seem like a given, don’t forget the importance of your website.  From there they can join a mailing list, enter contests, and really become enmeshed in the environment you have created there.  YouTube has a great “Insight” feature when you post a video that allows you to discover your fans’ age, location, gender, and most importantly, how they linked to your book video.  While it needs to be informative, also remember to make it fun!  If your creative juices are drained after writing that novel, find an expert who can boil the plotline down into a few minutes and prepare readers to settle in for a great read!”

Kathleen Kent has a book trailer to promote her debut novel, The Heretic’s Daughter.  Watch it!

Gray Collar Crimes is a contemporary crime thriller set in the world of identity theft, bank fraud, and high finance money laundering. How does an inexperienced mortgage broker pull off the biggest white collar crime in the history of American finance and walk away? The answer is really quite simple…by accident!
