A blog book tour is a virtual book tour. The author is hosted by bloggers – usually including book reviews, author interviews, press releases and upcoming events – linking to the author’s website and online retailers selling the book. Sometimes, the author pops in to visit the blog, answering questions or adding comments. The blog book tour connects the reader and the writer in a new, more immediate and much more cost effective way.
As any writer (who intends to make money) knows, a great majority of time is spent marketing your work and yourself. I asked Jim Melvin
, author of The Death Wizard Chronicles, what’s been happening with him since the first book, The Pit
, was released on September 3, 2007. Here’s a small part of his answer…
“As you and your readers know, most authors who have signed with a small- to mid-sized publisher are responsible for the majority of their own marketing. To say the least, I am no exception. What have I been doing since Sept. 3? Marketing, marketing, marketing … both in-person and online.”
– Jim Melvin, author of The Death Wizard Chronicles, a six-book epic fantasy
A blog book tour is not meant to replace a real world book tour. It is another promotional tool to enhance book sales and connect the author to the book buying public.
